Like so much of individuals, we right here at WIRED have spent a great portion of those early weeks of 2021 obsessive about sea chanteys. Although the service provider marine songs date again to the 19th century, they not too long ago grew to become a craze on TikTok, the place scores of individuals use the duet characteristic to create huge harmonized variations of the songs. (Have you seen these movies of oldsters singing about sugar, tea, rum, and “tonguing”? Then you realize what we’re speaking about.) Not too lengthy after they stormed social media, most of the people—determined for respite in today of quarantine—climbed aboard the development. Stephen Colbert even sang their praises on The Late Show.
Never ones to maintain our obsessions to ourselves (that’s why you like us, proper? Right?!), we determined it was time to take our personal private love of sea chanteys to the general public. So at this time, round 1 pm ET, we’re going to be heading to our Twitch channel to perform a little singing. If you’re frightened that our rusty pipes alone might not be value tuning in for, concern not. We’ve requested the a cappella people group The Longest Johns to hitch us. They’re skilled chantey singers and, as luck would have it, avid avid gamers, so that they’re going to be instructing us a couple of tunes whereas internet hosting us on their Sea of Thieves ship.
